The book: A delightful early 20th-century photoplay First edition combining Lewis Carroll's beloved tales with stills from one of the earliest film adaptations of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Published by Grosset & Dunlap, this edition was designed to capitalize on the success of the 1915 silent movie directed by W.W. Young, which brought the whimsy of Wonderland to the silver screen. An iconic artifact from the era of silent cinema and literary fantasy.

The author: Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (27 January 1832 – 14 January 1898), better known by his pen name Lewis Carroll, was an English writer, mathematician, logician, Anglican deacon, and photographer. His most famous writings are Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, its sequel Through the Looking-Glass, which includes the poem "Jabberwocky" and the poem The Hunting of the Snark – all examples of the genre of literary nonsense.

The illustrators: Rather than traditional illustrations, this edition features photographic stills from the 1915 silent film adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, starring Viola Savoy. The scenes were picturized by Dewitt C. Wheeler and offer a fascinating window into early cinematic storytelling and costume design. These images not only document the first screen portrayal of Alice but also serve as a unique visual interpretation of Carroll's fantastical world.
