The book: Rare and very attractive first English edition of this major work on Alpine Flora by Correvon. Scarce in such a nice binding and condition!

The author: Henry Correvon, born August 15, 1854 and died November 5, 1939 in Herisau, is a botanist from Vaud. Henry Correvon's influence on landscaping practices in French-speaking Switzerland was deep and lasting, especially from 1896, the year of the Geneva National Exhibition where, together with Jules Allemand, he created the Alpine Garden of the Swiss Village. Abroad, his influence is noticeable on the development of alpinum which, generally incorporated into botanical gardens, are at the origin of specific collections of alpine plants and gradually become formal elements of both landscaped gardens and architectural gardens.
