The author: Jean Commire was a French Jesuit writer, born in Amboise on March 25, 1625, died in Paris on December 25, 1702. He successfully cultivated Latin poetry, while teaching theology and fulfilling the duties of his state. His poems are composed of odes, fables, epigrams, imitations of the psalms and prophecies; they stand out for their elegance. The most complete collection was published by Simon Bénard in 1689, and reproduced by Barbou in 1753.
