Binding: Attractive and very good finely bound contemporary bindings of full morocco leather, gilt decorated (hinges fine, overall slightly worn and scuffed - as shown) under a protective removable mylar cover. All edges gilt.
Content: Very good content (bright, tight, and clean, rare light foxing or stainng - as shown, nice armorial bookplate of Fuller Farr on the 4 front endpapers - as shown).

The books: Attractive and rare first edition of the Tales of the Crusaders, a series of two historical novels by Sir Walter Scott released in 1825: The Betrothed and The Talisman. Set at the time of the Crusades, Tales of the Crusaders is a subset series that forms part of Scott's multi-novel series known as the Waverley Novels released from 1814 to 1832.
The Betrothed (1825) is set in the Welsh Marches in the 12th century, it is the first of two Tales of the Crusaders, the second being The Talisman. Set during the Third Crusade and centers on the relationship between Richard I of England and Saladin.

The author: Sir Walter Scott, 1st Baronet, FRSE (15 August 1771 – 21 September 1832) was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. Many of his works remain classics of both English-language literature and of Scottish literature. Famous titles include Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, Old Mortality, The Lady of the Lake, Waverley, The Heart of Midlothian, and The Bride of Lammermoor.
