Set at the time of the Crusades, Tales of the Crusaders is a subset series that forms part of Scott's multi-novel series known as the Waverley Novels released from 1814 to 1832.
The Betrothed (1825) is set in the Welsh Marches in the 12th century, it is the first of two Tales of the Crusaders, the second being The Talisman. Set during the Third Crusade and centers on the relationship between Richard I of England and Saladin.
The author: Sir Walter Scott, 1st Baronet, FRSE (15 August 1771 – 21 September 1832) was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. Many of his works remain classics of both English-language literature and of Scottish literature. Famous titles include Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, Old Mortality, The Lady of the Lake, Waverley, The Heart of Midlothian, and The Bride of Lammermoor.
