Binding: Attractive and very good original cloth binding (hinges fine, gilt on spine title faded - as shown) under a scarce good original dust jacket (some chips and tears - as shown, faded handwritten note on the front cover - as shown) in a protective removable mylar cover. A rare find in any condition!
Content: Very good content (bright, tight and clean, rale light foxing or staining - as shown, "from the library of" plate without a name on the first endpaper - as shown).

The book: Scarce in the original dustjacket and attractively illustrated edition of those Fairy Tales by Madame D'Aulnoy, Charles Perreault, and the Princesse de Beaumont Collected and Edited by Mrs. Valentine. This is a collection of 22 fairy tales: "Goody Two Shoes," " Patty and her Pitcher," "Blanche and Rosalind," "Fairer than a Fairy," "The Three Soldiers and the Dwarf," "The Giant with the Golden Hairs," "Blue Beard," "Diamonds and Toads," "Fortunio," "The Story of Prince Tito," "Prince Fatal and Prince Fortune," "The Beneficent Frog," "The Story of Prince Sincere," "Princess Rosetta," "Babiola," "The Three Bears," "The Good Little Mouse," "Septimus," "Prince Desire and Princess Mignonette," "Princess Minikin," "Prince Cherry," and "The Princess Maia." 

The editor: Laura Belinda Charlotte Jewry (married name Laura Valentine, pen names Mrs. S. Valentine and Aunt Louisa; 1814–1899), was a Victorian English writer primarily known for her children's literature. Her work was often produced in children's series including Aunt Louisa's Toy Books, Aunt Louisa’s Big Picture Series, and The Young Folk's Shakespeare Series.

The illustrator: John Watson Davis (1870-1959) was an American illustrator. He mainly drew religious pictures, but he also illustrated Conan Doyle's Tales of Sherlock Holmes, Edgar Allan Poe novels, Zane Grey novels and other books and magazines. His father, John Steeple Davis, also a book illustrator. Born in New York, Davis moved with his family to Paris in 1880. Davis returned to Brooklyn circa 1890, and began his commercial artist career. To avoid confusion with other artists named "John W. Davis," he began signing his work "J. Watson Davis." He married Agnes Danforth, with whom he had four children; they subsequently moved to Hollis, New York. Davis was living in California at the time of his death. In 1906, he did several illustrations for Arthur Conan Doyle's stories included in Tales of Sherlock Holmes.
