Binding: Good original Japanese silk-like brown cloth, front cover stamped in gold, spine panel stamped in gold, (hinges fine, overall slightly worn, soiled and scuffed - as shown) under a protective removable mylar cover. 
Content: Very good content (bright, tight, and clean,  ex-libris ink stamps of Abraham Hoffnung (1833 - 1912) of Rawdon Hall, Holyport, Bray, Maidenhead, Berkshire on the first endpaper - as shown, and on the last page, small chip on the upper margin of the last page without affecting the text - as shown).
Illustrations: Complete with the 6 beautiful illustrations by Laurence Housman.

The book: Rare First Edition of Clemence Housman's first novel, The Were-wolf (1896), -- an allegorical erotic fantasy featuring a female werewolf. H. P. Lovecraft said of the Were-Wolf that it: “attains a high degree of gruesome tension and achieves to some extent the atmosphere of authentic folklore”.

The author:  Clemence Annie Housman (23 November 1861 – 6 December 1955) was an author, illustrator and activist in the women's suffrage movement. She was the sister of A. E. Housman and Laurence Housman. Her novels included The Were-Wolf, Unknown Sea and The Life of Sir Aglovale De Galis. She was also a leading figure in the Suffragette movement.

The illustrator: Laurence Housman (18 July 1865 – 20 February 1959) was an English playwright, writer and illustrator.
