The book : Scarce 17th century first edition of this book (The Book Of The Elected: Jesus Christ On The Cross) by the jesuit Jean-Baptiste De Saint-Jure.
The author : Jean-Baptiste De Saint-Jure (1588-1657) was a Jesuit priest and writer. Bérullien spiritualist, he left many religious works.Jean-Baptiste Saint-Jure, or Sainct-Jure, was born in Metz in 1588. He entered the Society of Jesus as a novice in Nancy in 1604. He was the founder of an educational institution in Alençon, of which he was the first rector. He will later be rector of various other colleges, in Amiens, Orleans and Paris.
He is known to have been, following another Jesuit father, Jean-Joseph Surin, the spiritual director of the famous sister Jeanne des Anges after she was delivered from the demons who owned her and with whom he exchanged a voluminous correspondence. He was also the spiritual father of Gaston de Renty.
Jean-Baptiste Saint-Jure died on April 3, 1657, in Paris
