The book: Scarce early 17th-century edition of The School of Truth - La Scuola della Verita by Luigi Giuglaris. Christine de France (1606-1663) was the daughter of Henri IV and Marie de Médicis, sister of Louis XIII. On the death of her husband Victor-Emmanuel I of Savoy in 1637, she entrusted the education of her son, the future King Charles-Emmanuel II (1634-1675), to the Jesuit Luigi Giuglaris (1607-1653). Giuglaris then composed for his pupil and for his mother La Scuola della verità aperta a' prencipi, containing 23 "truths", which he dedicated to the mother of his princely pupil.

The author: Luigi Giuglaris (1607—1653) was a Jesuit and an outstanding orator and preacher in the style of concettismo. His most important works include Scuola della verità aperta a' prencipi (1650); Quare-simale, a collection of Lenten sermons published in 1665; and Teatro dell'eloquenza (1672).
