The book: A stunning Edition of the Poets volume, showcasing the lyrical mastery of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in a richly gilt Victorian binding. This Gall & Inglis production combines fine steel engravings with decorative framing and elegant typography, presenting Longfellow’s enduring poetry—among them The Psalm of Life, Evangeline, and The Song of Hiawatha—in an edition meant as both literary keepsake and gift book. The craftsmanship of the binding, with its glowing red morocco and intricate gilt motifs, makes this a fine example of 19th-century British decorative bookbinding.

The author: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807–1882) was one of the most beloved American poets of the 19th century, celebrated for his accessible verse and musicality. His works, deeply influenced by European literature and classical forms, brought poetry to a broad readership. Poems such as The Village Blacksmith, Paul Revere’s Ride, and Evangeline remain cornerstones of American Romanticism. Longfellow’s universal themes of love, morality, and nature helped secure his enduring fame both in the United States and abroad.
