Binding : Good and still attractive original green cloth covered boards with gold stamped lettering and the small pictorial pastedown on front cover, worn on edges. Roses on top edge of front cover. Edges are worn and rubbed. Spine tanned (overall slightly worn and scuffed) under a protective removable mylar cover.
Content : Good content (some foxing and marginal soiling - mainly on the last pages - as shown).
Illustrations : Beautifully illustrated by Maria Louise Kirk with color frontis and 4 plates. Plate 1 following the frontispiece has a tear/crease on the left lower corner - as shown).

The book : Rare and attractive copy of The Secret Garden - The children's novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett first published as a book in 1911, after a version was published as an American magazine serial beginning in 1910. Set in England, it is one of Burnett's most popular novels and is considered a classic of English children's literature. Several stage and film adaptations have been made.
The American edition was published in 1911 by Stokes with illustrations by Maria Louise Kirk (signed as M. L. Kirk) and the British edition by Heinemann with illustrations by Charles Heath Robinson.

The author: Frances Eliza Hodgson Burnett (24 November 1849 – 29 October 1924) was a British-American novelist and playwright. She is best known for the three children's novels Little Lord Fauntleroy (published in 1885–1886), A Little Princess (1905), and The Secret Garden (1911).
