Publisher: London, Glasgow and Bombay, Blackie and Son Limited, 1911. First Blackie Edition with gilt roses on front cover (later editions had yellow flowers).

Binding: Very good and attractive original decorated full-cloth covered boards with gold stamped lettering and roses and a pictorial pastedown on front cover (hinges fine, overall slightly worn and scuffed - as shown) under a protective removable mylar cover. Upper edge gilt. The Art Nouveau binding is typical of Blackie in this period, complete with stylized Glasgow gilt roses.
Content: Very good content (bright, tight and clean, rare light foxing or staining - as shown, prize gift note of a previous 1910 owner on the half-title page - as shown).
Illustrations: Complete with the 12 full-page color illustrations by Frank C Pape and the seventy-six black and white drawings. This new edition is the first thus with Pape's color plates keeping Arthur Hughe's illustrations in the text. A wonderful and uncommon edition!
