The book: Rare and very nice First edition of The White Cat and Other Old French Fairy Tales illustrated by Elizabeth MacKinstry. Including "The White Cat", "Graciosa and Percinet", "The Pot of Carnations", "Prince Sprite" and "The Good Little Mouse". 

The illustrator: Elizabeth MacKinstry U.S. artist Elizabeth MacKinstry was principally known as an illustrator of children’s books. Her work for books such as The Fairy Alphabet and Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen was both imaginative and humorous. Elizabeth MacKinstry was born in the United States in 1879, but much of her youth was spent overseas.

The author: Marie-Catherine Le Jumel de Barneville, Baroness d'Aulnoy (1650/1651–4 January 1705), also known as Countess d'Aulnoy, was a French writer known for her fairy tales. When she termed her works contes de fées (fairy tales), she originated the term that is now generally used for the genre.
