The author: Charles van Sandwyk is a Canadian artist and author known for his whimsical illustrations and intricate, hand-crafted books. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1966, he moved to Vancouver, Canada at a young age. Influenced by the classic illustrators of the early 20th century, van Sandwyk's works evoke a sense of nostalgia and enchantment, often featuring animals, fairies, and other fantastical subjects. Over the years, he has gained significant acclaim for his artistry, with his works being collected and admired internationally. Apart from his own titles, van Sandwyk has also illustrated editions for well-known authors, notably for the Folio Society. He splits his time between British Columbia and a remote Fijian island, where the tranquillity of his surroundings deeply influences his art.
