The book: A truly exquisite 1814 pocket-sized edition of the King James Bible, in a rare luxury binding meant for personal devotion or presentation. Printed during the Regency era and bound in fine red straight-grain morocco with ornate gilt decoration and a metal clasp, this edition embodies both sacred text and superb craftsmanship. The presence of the original red morocco box—an uncommon survival—adds significant historical and collector value. The Bible is printed by royal printers George Eyre and Andrew Strahan, and sold by major publishers of the time, emphasizing its importance and distribution across the British Empire. The signature of Mary Ann Barnet, dated 1887, provides a poignant glimpse into this Bible's 19th-century life as a cherished object of faith.

The author: The King James Version (KJV) of the Bible was commissioned by King James I of England in 1604 and first published in 1611. Revered for its majestic prose and literary influence, the KJV remains the most enduring and widely read English translation. This 1814 edition maintains the fidelity and reverence of that original translation.

The binder (attributed): Although unsigned, the craftsmanship and luxurious presentation suggest the work of a high-end London bindery—possibly Riviere & Son or a contemporary workshop specializing in bespoke bindings for religious works and private patrons. The finely gilt spine, ornate borders, and gilt dentelle turn-ins are hallmarks of quality 19th-century English binding.
