Content: Very good content (bright, tight, and clean, rare light foxing or staining—as shown, gift note of a previous 1857 owner on the first endpaper—as shown). An exceptionally clean copy.
Illustrations: Complete with the 31 beautiful illustrations by John Gilbert engraved by the brothers Dalziel.


The book: Rare and attractive Victorian edition of Evangeline, A Tale of Acadie -- an epic poem by the American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, written in English and published in 1847. The poem follows an Acadian girl named Evangeline and her search for her lost love Gabriel, set during the time of the Expulsion of the Acadians.

The author: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (February 27, 1807 – March 24, 1882) was an American poet and educator whose works include "Paul Revere's Ride", The Song of Hiawatha, and Evangeline. He was also the first American to translate Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy and was one of the five Fireside Poets from New England.
