The book: This vintage McLoughlin Bros. Night Before Christmas and Other Stories embodies the warm, nostalgic charm of early American Christmas publishing. Produced in the late 1900s, its large-format chromolithographs and lively line drawings bring Clement Moore’s timeless poem and additional stories vividly to life. The book stands as both a collectible holiday artifact and a delightful display piece.

The author: Clement Clarke Moore (1779–1863), traditionally credited with the authorship of A Visit from St. Nicholas (The Night Before Christmas), profoundly shaped the modern American conception of Santa Claus. First appearing anonymously in 1823, Moore’s poem introduced the jovial, pipe-smoking, sleigh-riding figure beloved today. His verses have inspired countless illustrated editions, including this richly produced McLoughlin Bros. version.
