The book: A handsome early English edition of The Cryptogram by Jules Verne, issued by Sampson Low in their "Author’s Copyright Edition" series. This thrilling tale transports the reader to the Amazonian landscapes of Brazil, centering on mystery, justice, and adventure—classic Verne themes—unfolding through the intrigue of a cryptic message and the quest it inspires.

The author: Jules Verne (1828–1905), one of the most influential pioneers of science fiction and adventure literature, penned a remarkable array of novels in his Voyages Extraordinaires series. Verne’s meticulous research and vivid imagination brought readers to the depths of the seas, the far reaches of space, and the heart of unexplored continents. The Cryptogram, set in the lush and perilous Amazon, is one of his lesser-known yet highly engaging narratives, rich in both atmosphere and suspense.
