The Book: A beautiful 1926 London edition of Robin Hood and His Merry Outlaws, retold by J. Walker McSpadden and splendidly illustrated by N. C. Wyeth. Originally published in 1917, Wyeth’s Robin Hood paintings are among the finest achievements of the Golden Age of Illustration—celebrated for their vivid action, warmth, and noble character.

This George G. Harrap issue captures the romance and adventure of England’s legendary outlaw in a highly decorative pictorial binding—one of the most visually appealing of all Harrap editions from the 1920s. A delightful marriage of heroic storytelling and exceptional design.

The Author: J. Walker McSpadden (1874–1960) was an American author and editor renowned for adapting classic tales for young readers. His Robin Hood (first published in 1904) became one of the most enduring and influential retellings of the medieval legend—accessible, lyrical, and rich in moral tone.

The Illustrator: Newell Convers Wyeth (1882–1945) was one of America’s greatest illustrators and the founder of the Wyeth artistic dynasty. His emotionally charged and vividly colored works defined early 20th-century adventure illustration. In Robin Hood, Wyeth masterfully evokes the camaraderie, courage, and woodland magic of Sherwood Forest—each image brimming with vitality and timeless heroism.
