Content: Good content (bright and tight, handwritten text of a previous owner on first endpaper page mentioning that the book comes from the Antique Jesuit Library in Paris with references to  Nostradamus and the likely author of this extremely rare book, some light water staining on the upper part of pages - as shown, rare pencil underlining, lower margin of title page has been replaced probably to remove the signature of a previous owner - as shown).

The book: Published in 1612 Paris, 'Le Chimiste ou Conservateur Francois' is a curious collection of articles and essays on the magical properties of gold and philosopher's stone- cures for gout, leprosy, dropsy, epilepsy, convulsions, apoplexy. 

This extraordinary work is dedicated to the Queen Regent Marie de Medicis, who must have been astonished at the insinuation of the necessity of her using 5 or 6 pills of Mercure Diaphoretique as a perfect cure for the "mal infame" (Syphilis).
