Binding: Attractive and good original gilt decorated red cloth binding executed by Westleys & Co. in London (hinges fine, overall worn and scuffed- as shown, upper outer corner slightly darkened - as shown) under a protective removable mylar cover. A rare find in any condition!
Content: Good content (tight, light foxing or staining - mainly on the preliminary pages- as shown, small ink stain on the outer margin of preliminary pages - as shown, first blank blue endpaper removed - as shown). All edges gilt. 
Illustrations: Wonderfully illustrated with large head-piece illustrations to each page by Otto Speckter and engraved by the Brothers Dalziel.

The Illustrator: Otto Speckter (* November 9, 1807, in Hamburg; † April 29, 1871 ibid) was a German illustrator.

The wood-engravers: The Brothers Dalziel was a prolific wood-engraving business in Victorian London, founded in 1839 by George Dalziel (1 December 1815 – August 1902), with his brother Edward Dalziel (1817–1905) from 1840. They were later joined by their sister Margaret (1819–1894), brother John (1822–1869), and brother Thomas Dalziel (1823–1906). Along with at least three older brothers and one younger, they were children of the artist Alexander Dalziel of Wooler in Northumberland.
