Binding: Attractive and very good binding, handsomely bound in a fine blue-green morocco leather binding with gilt decoration on the spines and covers. The set features gilt ruling on the front and back boards, as well as on the spines. Both volumes have raised bands with additional gilt motifs between them (hinges fine, overall slightly worn and scuffed - as shown) under a protective removable mylar cover.
Content: Good to very good content (bright, tight, and clean, foxing mainly on the frontispiece portrait and his tissue guard paper due to the different types of paper used - as shown, old bookseller stamp for Philip and Solomon's Metropolitan Book Store of Washington D.C. on front endpaper - as shown).
Illustrations: Complete with the frontispiece portrait of Hawthorne.
