Binding: Attractive and very good original green cloth binding with elaborate gilt title and decoration on the front cover, blind-stamped borders, and plain back cover (hinges fine, overall slightly worn and scuffed - as shown) under a protective removable mylar cover. All edges gilt.
Content: Good to Very good content (bright, tight and clean, inner hinge of endpapers worn but still tight - as shown, gift note of a previous 1867 owner on the first endpaper - as shown, some light foxing and staining - as shown, small chip nicely repaired by a previous owner on the outer margin of letter "A" page - as shown).
Illustrations: Profusely illustrated with vibrant, full-page chromolithographic illustrations by Oscar Pletsch, accompanied by rhyming text for each letter of the alphabet. The artwork captures Victorian-era domestic life with delightful detail and charm.
