The book: Rare and attractive early French Hetzel edition of Around the Moon (French: Autour de la Lune, 1869), also translated as Circling the Moon and All Around the Moon, is the sequel to Jules Verne's 1865 novel, From the Earth to the Moon. It's a science fiction tale that continues the trip to the moon that was only begun in the first novel. Later English editions sometimes combined the two under the title From the Earth to the Moon and Around It. From the Earth to the Moon and Around the Moon served as the basis for the 1902 film A Trip to the Moon.
The author: Jules Verne (1828–1905), often referred to as the "Father of Science Fiction," was a French author renowned for his visionary works that combine adventure, science, and technology. His Voyages Extraordinaires series has captivated readers worldwide, blending imaginative storytelling with meticulous scientific details. Verne's works have inspired countless innovations and remain influential in literature and popular culture.
The illustrators: Émile Bayard (1837–1891) was a French illustrator known for his detailed and emotive drawings, famously contributing to Victor Hugo's Les Misérables.
Alphonse de Neuville (1835–1885) was celebrated for his historical and adventure illustrations, notably in works by Verne and Dumas. Their engravings for Autour de la Lune encapsulate the wonder and peril of Verne's cosmic voyage.
