The author: Alex Chodsko (1804-1891) was a notable Polish-Iranian linguist, Slavist, and Iranologist renowned for his comprehensive studies of Slavic folklore.

The illustrator: Emily Jane Harding Andrews (born Emily Jane Harding in Bristol 1850, died August 1940, in Sutherland Shire, Australia) was a British translator, painter and suffragette. She was known for her ability to bring foreign texts to English-speaking audiences with fidelity and artistic flair.
