The author: Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832–1898), better known by his pen name Lewis Carroll, was an English writer of world-famous children's fiction, notably Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass. He was noted for his facility at word play, logic, and fantasy.

The illustrator: Sir John Tenniel (1820 – 1914) was an English illustrator, graphic humorist, and political cartoonist prominent in the second half of the 19th century. He was knighted for his artistic achievements in 1893. Tenniel is remembered especially as the principal political cartoonist for Punch magazine and for his illustrations to Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass.
