Thoreau / Walden.” Binding remains firm and attractive, with light rubbing and a few minor surface marks consistent with age, as shown. Protected in a removable mylar cover. 
Content: Very good. Clean and complete interior with light age toning and occasional minor foxing or spotting, chiefly toward the preliminary and terminal leaves. Text remains bright, legible, and well preserved throughout.

The book: First published in 1854, Walden records the two years, two months, and two days Thoreau spent living in a cabin he built near Walden Pond in Concord, Massachusetts. More than an account of rustic solitude, it is a sustained reflection on self-reliance, simplicity, work, reading, society, nature, and the meaning of a deliberately lived life.

Its chapters, including “Economy,” “Where I Lived, and What I Lived For,” “Solitude,” “The Ponds,” “Winter Animals,” and the celebrated “Conclusion,” have made Walden one of the foundational works of American literature and environmental thought. The author: Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862) was an American essayist, naturalist, philosopher, and one of the central figures of the Transcendentalist movement. A close associate of Ralph Waldo Emerson, he combined close observation of the natural world with a deeply individual philosophy of conscience, independence, and resistance to conformity.

Alongside Walden, his essay Civil Disobedience became enormously influential in political and ethical thought, later inspiring figures including Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. His writings continue to resonate in discussions of environmentalism, personal freedom, material simplicity, and the relationship between the individual and society.
