The translator Edward Hayes Plumptre (6 August 1821 – 1 February 1891) was an English divine and scholar born in London. For twenty years he studied Dante, and his English version of Dante's work appeared as The Divina Commedia and Canzoniere of Dante Alighieri; with Biographical Introduction, Notes and Essays.
