Binding: Attractive and near fine publisher’s original red cloth binding, beautifully stamped in gilt with the iconic musketeers' motto "All for One and One for All" within an elaborate heraldic sword and banner design. Spines gilt-lettered and decorated with fleur-de-lis motifs ( hinges fine, overall slightly scuffed - as shown, slight uniform fading to spine cloth - as shown) under a protective removable mylar cover. Upper edge gilt.
Content: Very good, near fine content (bright, tight, and clean - as shown).
Illustration: Illustrated with 17 black-and-white plates with tissue guards, including frontispieces in both volumes, showcasing detailed engraved scenes of D’Artagnan and his comrades in action. The artwork is finely rendered by various artists including Eugene Abot and Felix Oudart.
