Binding: Attractive and very good, near fine, original full-cloth binding (hinges fine, overall scuffed - as shown) under a protective removable mylar cover. All edges gilt.
Content: Very good content (bright, tight and clean, rare light foxing - as shown, school book prize dated 1901 on the first endpaper - as shown). 
Illustrations: Complete with the frontispiece and 24 wonderful illustrations by Richard Doyle.

The illustrator: Richard "Dickie" Doyle (18 September 1824 – 10 December 1883) was a notable illustrator of the Victorian era. His work frequently appeared, amongst other places, in Punch magazine; he drew the cover of the first issue and designed the magazine's masthead, a design that was used for over a century.
