The book: Rare 1905 de La More Edition of the second book by Edward FitzGerald, best known for translating the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. This is an anonymously published collection of aphorisms. 'I meant it to be the best little book of its kind extant. I am not sure it be not -- but it is not as good as I intended,' FitzGerald wrote to E. B. Cowell, in February 1852.
The author: Edward FitzGerald or Fitzgerald (31 March 1809 – 14 June 1883) was an English poet and writer. His most famous poem is the first and best known English translation of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, which has kept its reputation and popularity since the 1860s.
