The book: A scarce and visually striking 1908 edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, issued by S. W. Partridge & Co. and featuring the first appearance of K. M. Roberts’ unique illustrations. This edition departs from the iconic Tenniel illustrations, offering instead a stylized interpretation that aligns with early 20th-century artistic trends, particularly the Art Nouveau movement. The boldly decorative binding itself is a testament to the era’s aesthetics and a beautiful artifact of book design.

The author: Lewis Carroll (1832–1898), the pen name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, was an English author, mathematician, and logician, best known for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass. His imaginative narratives and playful manipulation of logic and language have made his works enduring classics of children’s literature.

The illustrator: K. M. Roberts, while not widely known today, brought a distinctive turn-of-the-century flair to this edition of Alice. Her illustrations reflect a shift from Victorian literalism to the decorative stylization of the early 20th century, lending a whimsical and fresh perspective to Alice’s adventures.
