The book: "Attractive First American edition in the scarce blue cloth variant of The Secret Garden - The children's novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett first published as a book in 1911, after a version was published as an American magazine serial beginning in 1910. Set in England, it is one of Burnett's most popular novels and a classic of English children's literature. Several stage and film adaptations have been made.
The American edition was published in 1911 by Stokes with illustrations by Maria Louise Kirk (signed as M. L. Kirk) and the British edition by Heinemann with illustrations by Charles Heath Robinson."

The author: Frances Eliza Hodgson Burnett (24 November 1849 – 29 October 1924) was a British-American novelist and playwright. She is best known for the three children's novels Little Lord Fauntleroy (published in 1885–1886), A Little Princess (1905), and The Secret Garden (1911).


The illustrator: Maria L. Kirk (1860-1938) was an acclaimed American illustrator known for her enchanting and detailed illustrations in children's literature. Born in Pennsylvania, Kirk studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts before embarking on a prolific career in book illustration. She is celebrated for her work on classic titles such as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Kirk's illustrations are characterized by their vibrant colors, intricate details, and ability to capture the whimsical and magical essence of the stories she depicted.
