Binding: Attractive and Very Good original green cloth-covered boards with the large pictorial pastedown on the front cover (hinges fine, overall slightly worn and scuffed - as shown, gilt on spine faded - as shown) under a protective removable mylar cover. 
Content: Very good content (bright, tight and clean, some light foxing, toning or staining - as shown, inner hinge of endpapers slightly worn but still tight - as shown, name of a previous owner on the first endpaper - as shown).
Illustrations: Complete with the beautiful illustrations by Maria Louise Kirk. (Complete with the color frontispiece and the 3  full-page plates).

The book: "Rare and attractive Second American edition of The Secret Garden - The children's novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett first published as a book in 1911, after a version was published as an American magazine serial beginning in 1910. Set in England, it is one of Burnett's most popular novels and is considered a classic of English children's literature. Several stage and film adaptations have been made.
The American edition was published in 1911 by Stokes with illustrations by Maria Louise Kirk (signed as M. L. Kirk) and the British edition by Heinemann with illustrations by Charles Heath Robinson."


The author: Frances Eliza Hodgson Burnett (24 November 1849 – 29 October 1924) was a British-American novelist and playwright. She is best known for the three children's novels Little Lord Fauntleroy (published in 1885–1886), A Little Princess (1905), and The Secret Garden (1911).
