Binding: Attractive and near fine exquisite full tan morocco leather binding with richly blind-stamped decorative panels on both boards and spine, featuring symmetrical foliate and floral ornamentation. Raised bands to spine with gilt-stamped title and author. All edges trimmed. Elegant decorative endpapers with a repeating gold-on-green arabesque motif. Upper edge gilt.

The author: Louis Hémon (1880–1913) was a French writer and journalist best known for Maria Chapdelaine, written during his brief stay in Quebec shortly before his untimely death. Hémon's sensitive depiction of French-Canadian rural life contributed significantly to the cultural identity of Quebec.

The illustrator: Jean Droit (1884–1961) was a French illustrator and painter known for his expressive line and romantic style. A veteran of World War I, Droit brought both vigor and sentiment to his book illustrations. His collaboration with H. Piazza produced several treasured illustrated editions, marked by their high aesthetic quality and detailed craftsmanship.
