The book: Attractive First edition illustrated by ALDREN A. WATSON in a nice morocco binding by Bayntun of Walden,  a book by noted transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau. The text is a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings. The work is a part personal declaration of independence, social experiment, a voyage of spiritual discovery, satire, and (to some degree) manual for self-reliance.

The author: Henry David Thoreau (July 12, 1817 – May 6, 1862) was an American essayist, poet, philosopher, abolitionist, naturalist, tax resister, development critic, surveyor, and historian. A leading transcendentalist, Thoreau is best known for his book Walden, a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings, and his essay "Civil Disobedience" (originally published as "Resistance to Civil Government"), an argument for disobedience to an unjust state.

The illustrator: Aldren A. Watson (1917–2013) was an American author, illustrator, and book designer. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he grew up in a family of artists and writers. Watson was best known for his detailed and accurate illustrations and his informative, engaging books on traditional handcrafts and country living.
